Now that all that snow is behind us, step out for a fun weekend in Greater Morristown. There’s plenty to do before the Super Bowl’s opening kickoff!

Revisit Brasil 66, or take a trip to Mars. Dance at a Carnaval. Romp with Pirates. Bop with Samurai. Remember Jackie. Mingle with photographers and painters.  Horse around with a pair of Percherons.

THURSDAY, FEB. 4, 2016:

Sherlock Holmes Faces DeathThe Morristown & Township Library presents the 1943 film Sherlock Holmes Faces Death, at 6:45 pm, as part of a series examining Sherlock Holmes movies. Admission: Free. At One Miller Road, Morristown.

The library’s Book Lovers’ Circle also is holding its monthly meeting, at 7 pm, same location.

The Morris County Library  presents a free screening of the Oscar-nominated drama The Martian at 2 pm, at 30 E. Hanover Ave., Whippany.

Mustard’s Retreat with Katherine Rondeau perform at The Minstrel in Morris Township at 8 pm. Admission: $9; children 12 and under, free. At the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, 21 Normandy Heights Road.

Universal Rebel, Morristown’s home-grown hip hop band, plays at the Dublin Pub at 9 pm. Maura Glynn will share the vocal spotlight. At 4 Pine St.

Staff members at Morristown’s 70 South Gallery don’t just print and frame pictures…they take great shots, too. See for yourself at their exhibition, All Together Now, which opens today. Read more here.

The Friends of the Library are holding a book sale from 10 am to 2 pm at the Morristown & Township Library, One Miller Road, Morristown. Proceeds benefit the library.

At 11 am, it’s Family Story Time at the library, for ages 3-8, same location. Admission: Free.

The program runs from 7 pm to midnight in the Parish Hall, at the corner of Miller Road and Maple Avenue. Admission: $20/singles, $35 /couples. Read more here.

SUNDAY, FEB. 7:

morris county winter farmers market posterThe Morris County Winter Farmers Market has a new home, Morristown’s Alexander Hamilton School, from 10 am to 2 pm every Sunday through April. Organized by the Foodshed Alliance and Sustainable Morristown, the market aims to present up to 25 vendors of locally grown produce. At 24 Mills St.

Why feel guilty about all the munchies you’re going to consume watching the Super Bowl tonight?  Make room by running the Pre-Game 4 Miler at 11 am! It starts in the Wells Fargo parking lot, 8 DeHart St., Morristown. Online registration: $35.

Meet the new horses on the block, Major and King, who are taking over from the retiring Calvin and Hobbes at the Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morris Township. You can greet the new Percherons from noon to 4 pm during A Winter’s Day at the Farm. The draft horses are a gift from Whole Foods Market in Morristown. Admission ranges from $8 for adults to free for children 2 and under. At 73 Kahdena Road.

Learn about Jackie Kennedy’s Historic Preservation Legacy at 1:30 pm, when historic preservation consultant Kathleen Galop, Esq., delivers a free talk at the Morris County Library, 30 E. Hanover Ave., Whippany. The talk is sponsored by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, and hosted by the Morristown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  The DAR asks guests to bring items to donate to veterans and military personnel. A list of suggested items is here.

 

Meet the artists from 3 pm to 5 pm at a reception for Innocence: Coming Together Through Artistic Expression, a community art show at Temple B’Nai Or in Morristown. Proceeds from painting sales benefit CASA, an organization that advocates for children caught in the court system. Lisa Firkser, CASA’s executive director, will speak at the reception. At 60 Overlook Road, behind the Thomas Jefferson School.
