Officials in Greater Morristown are urging residents to stay off the road tonight, Jan. 23, 2016, as a blizzard warning remains in effect into early Sunday.

When it’s all over, anywhere from 22- to 30 inches may be on the ground, with wind-blown drifts five feet deep, according to the National Weather Service.

“We are in a state of emergency,” Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty reminded citizens. If anyone has any problems or issues, he said, call 911 without delay.

Warming shelters will open at fire stations in Morristown and Morris Township if power outages occur. (In Morristown, call 973-292-6605.)

Report power outages at 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) , or click the “Report Outage” Link at www.firstenergycorp.com.

Morris Plains police ask residents to clear snow from fire hydrants, so firefighters can access them in an emergency.
