Hospital security guards collared Joseph Pyne, 43, of Morristown after he allegedly assaulted a 28-year-old Mount Olive woman and a 45-year-old woman from West Hartford, CT, who tried to intervene, said Morristown Police Lt. Stuart Greer.

Both women were examined by the hospital’s emergency staff and released without life-threatening injuries, Greer said. Police were called to the scene at 7:23 pm on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016.

Pyne was charged with one count of aggravated assault and is lodged in the Morris County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.  Officer Eric Petr investigated the incident.

Morristown Medical Center spokeswoman Elaine Andrecovich issued this statement:

“The safety and security of our patients, guests, and employees is our priority across all Atlantic Health System campuses. The Morristown Medical Center security team responded swiftly to a situation between two visitors after being alerted by volunteers. Working in tandem with the Morristown Police Department, our team was able to quickly control the situation and remove the offender from hospital premises.”
