The Discovery Series is a partnership between Music at St. Peter’s (MASP) and the Concert Artist Guild (CAG), a New York based nonprofit whose mission is to discover, nurture, and promote young musicians.

Winners of CAG’s annual competition, these young artists are among the most gifted musicians entering the world’s classical music scene.

The Amphion String Quartet is a winner of the 2011 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, and joined the roster of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s “CMS Two” program in fall 2013.

Through LCCMS, the ensemble made its Alice Tully Hall debut in March 2014. The New York Times said “the Quartet plays with a brand of fierce, sharply directed energy and the kind of intensely focused sound that makes every line in a texture stand out clearly.”

Violinists Katie Hyun and David Southorn, violist Wei-Yang Andy Lin, and cellist Mihai Marica first joined together for a performance at Sprague Hall at the Yale School of Music in February 2009.

CAG artists have a passion for spreading their love of music. As a prelude to their concert at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church,  the Amphion Quartet will present a free lecture and demonstration for all school-aged children.

The musicians will demonstrate how their instruments work, what it means to be part of an ensemble, and talk about their concert program. Through this unique collaboration, MASP aims to foster love for and curiosity about the arts in our youngest patrons. Come and Discover music in fresh and exciting ways!

An additional incentive to children who attend the lecture/demonstration is pizza and free admission to the concert for themselves and their parents.

The Frank and Lydia Bergen Foundation, as well as Morris Arts make the Discovery Series possible. Free babysitting is available.

The children’s lecture/demonstration starts at 4:30 pm and is free. The concert is at 7:30 pm. Tickets: $20 adults, $10 students with college ID; children free.

At Miller Road and South Street, Morristown.
