Authorities rule Randolph shooting range death a suicide

prosecutor logoMonday’s fatal shooting at a Randolph range was a suicide, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office said on Wednesday.

A 28-year-old man, whose identity was not disclosed, shot himself in the chest. The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced it a suicide.

The incident was reported at 4:59 pm, at the RTSP Shooting Range on Route 10.  Another man was fatally shot there in September.

UPDATE: Cause and Manner Determined in Man Who Fatally Shot Himself at Randolph Shooting Range

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Randolph Township Police Chief David Stokoe announce the Cause and Manner of the fatal shooting that occurred on the evening of November 30, 2015 at the RTSP Shooting Range, 961 Route 10 East in Randolph, New Jersey.

The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the Cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the chest and the Manner of death to be a suicide.

As previously reported, at approximately, 4:59 p.m. on November 30, 2015 the Randolph Police Department was notified of a shooting that occurred at RTSP Shooting Range. Upon their response, it was learned that a 28 year old male fatally shot himself while inside the gun range. He succumbed to his injuries.

This matter is considered to be an isolated incident. No other persons were involved in this incident and no criminal charges are expected.

Due to the nature of this incident, no further details as to the identity of the decedent will be released.

This matter is being investigated by the Randolph Township Police Department, the Major Crimes Unit of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office – Criminal Investigation Section, and the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

  1. @Rick Smith – Do you really think suicide is a cowardly act? I think it takes balls and lots of contemplating to get to that point. The ones that stay in this world- “Misery loves company”

  2. Why should the range be closed ? Because someone that wanted to do something came in and did it ? You’re not going to stop anyone from killing themselves if they really want to. I feel sorry for the range officers there, and the staff. They work REALLY hard to keep a safe facility and then some idiot comes in and pops himself one. If it was an afternoon on a monday, the chances are the range was pretty empty. Perfect time for a cowardly act. Keep the faith, RTSP. I for one, will be returning.
