Authorities have identified a man found dead behind a Morristown restaurant on Tuesday as Oscar Alberto Romero, 23, formerly of Honduras.
“The cause and manner of death are pending,” Denise Arseneault, a spokesperson for Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp, said on Wednesday.
Romero did not recently have a “consistent residence,” the Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
Morristown Police responded to a call reporting an unconscious person behind the Sushi Lounge restaurant on Schuyler Place at about 8:30 am on Tuesday.
Romero, who was dead, was found in a back alley, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
Morris County Medical Examiner Dr. Ronald V. Suarez, MD, performed an autopsy.
“It does not appear at this time that there is any risk to the general public,” Arseneault said.
But the investigation continues, involving the Major Crimes Unit of the Prosecutor’s Office and the Morristown Police. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Prosecutor’s Office at 973-285-6200 or Morristown Police at 973-538-2200.
Thanks for checking in, Josh. The prosecutor’s office says it’s awaiting toxicology results, which can take up to six weeks.
