Authorities investigating fatal shooting at Randolph range

A 21-year-old man fatally shot himself at the RTSP Shooting Range in Randolph on Saturday night, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said on Sunday.

prosecutor logo“This matter continues to be investigated, but is considered to be an isolated incident and there is no danger to the community. No other persons were involved in this incident and no criminal charges are expected,” Knapp said in a joint statement with Randolph Police Chief David Stokoe.

The victim’s identity was not released.  Authorities did not indicate whether the death is considered accidental or a suicide.

Randolph police were notified of the shooting at 7:30 pm.  The victim was transported from the Route 10 shooting range to a hospital.

The case is being investigated by the Randolph Police Department, the Major Crimes Unit of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office – Criminal Investigation Section, and the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office.
