How is this possible? Another summer is slipping away.
Greater Morristown is taking a breather for the Labor Day Weekend, with fewer weekend events than usual.
But if you’re not heading for a beach, we can offer a few local diversions for you. The Minstrel has John Fogarty’s keyboard player. You can catch Benjamin Britten’s Abraham and Isaac at the Morristown Jewish Center. Tour the Arboretum. Do some yoga at the farm. Take Grandpa for a train ride.
Scroll down for details, and check our handy calendar for more entertainment options.
Above all… relax, and enjoy the fruits of your labor!
THURSDAY, SEPT. 3, 2015
The school year begins today in the Morris School District. Be alert, motorists! And good luck to students and teachers; have a great year!
Generally speaking, an exhibition entitled The Language of Fans would give us pause. We’ve sat in the bleachers enough times to hear more than enough of that. But the Morris Museum has something different in mind: Handheld fans, the kind that would be handy during this heat wave. The exhibit runs through Dec. 6, 2015, and includes “stylish examples from the United States, Europe, and Asia,” from the museum’s collection. Admission: $10 for adults and $7 for children, students and senior citizens. Free for members. At Normandy Heights Road (at the corner of Columbia Turnpike) in Morris Township. Call (973) 971-3700 for more.
Learn about the canals of New Jersey, at the Macculloch Hall Historical Museum in Morristown. A traveling exhibit tells the story of New Jersey’s two towpath canals, the Morris and the Delaware & Raritan. Open from 1 pm to 4 pm. Admission: Adults $8; seniors &and students $6; children 6 – 12, $4. Members and children under 5, free. At 45 Macculloch Ave.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 4:
Emotions Anonymous, a 12-step program, meets at 7 pm at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, at Miller Road and Maple Avenue in Morristown.
The Minstrel features Bob Malone, keyboard player for John Fogarty (Creedence Clearwater Revival) at 8 pm. As a solo artist, Malone “conjures up images of Professor Longhair, or Tom Waits. He mixes literate, sardonic, gutsy songwriting with full-tilt barrelhouse piano for a powerful stage presence,” says The Minstrel. Mike Miz (the Guitar Wiz) opens. Admission: $9, plus what you think the show really merits; children 12 and under, free. At the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, 21 Normandy Heights Road, Morris Township.
