PHOTOGRAPHY GALLERY HOSTING PUBLIC CONVERSATION WITH PREMIER ARTISTS

The 70 South Gallery in Morristown is inviting the public to join an informal conversation with their featured artists on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, from 5-7 p.m. as part of its Informal Lens series.

This free event affords participants a revealing look into these artists’ respective creative and photographic philosophies and approaches.

Master photographer Joe Freeman and student photographer Josh Charow are currently featured in the gallery’s Black, White and Color exhibition.

Joe Freeman, is a visionary photographer who embodies the two traits that differentiate exceptional photographers—passion and vision.

Combine these with obsessive printing technique, a singular attention to detail, and extraordinary work emerges. This is Joe Freeman’s raison d’être. It is clear from the life in his images that he lives for his art.

Freeman sees what others do not.  Some knowledgeable art academics and historians have compared his work to Ansel Adams. Joe’s work exudes feelings rarely experienced in photography.  In this exhibition, Joe is offering his images masterly printed in a limited edition of five.  In addition, 70 South Gallery is also featuring some of his silver gelatin prints.

Josh Charow, is a senior at Newark Academy. He started shooting at age 10.  Since then, he has explored and discovered the most beautiful yet undiscovered perspectives of New York City.

His work focuses on the city lights of New York after hours—from rooftops and subway stations to the street. Josh has worked on projects shooting for Young and Reckless, Stance Socks, and Aeropostale. He has won awards for his cityscapes from Scholastic.

Josh recently completed a summer film program at NYU Tisch.  His goal is to one day be a professional cinematographer.  Josh describes his process in this manner: “I want an emotion to be projected on the viewer: Fear, happiness, sadness or another emotion. If I can make someone feel something with one frame, then I’m satisfied with my work.”

The Informal Lens is a regular series of candid conversations moderated by Ira L. Black, professional photographer and gallery director at 70 South Gallery.  Each installment shines a spotlight on two featured artists and helps the gallery bring awareness to its current and upcoming shows, ultimately striving to bring together a community of like-minded photographers and photo enthusiasts.

To save a seat, please RSVP to Ira  by Thursday, Sept. 10.
