Video: ‘Barrett’s Volunteers’

By Kevin Coughlin

Behind every great concert is a great volunteer.

A small army of volunteers, actually. At least, that’s the secret formula that has kept the Folk Project’s Minstrel Acoustic Concert Series humming along for 40 years.

Some Folk Project members joined voices at last weekend’s Big 4-0 celebration in Morris Township for a tongue-in-cheek recitation of their volunteer duties. Although this litany is specific to The Minstrel, it should sound familiar to vols of all stripes.

Set to the tune of Barrett’s Privateers, a Stan Rogers sea shanty, Barrett’s Volunteers pokes gentle fun at Folk Project President Barrett Wilson.

The ensemble is led by Mike Agranoff — The Minstrel’s volunteer music coordinator for the last 39 years — and includes Amy Livingston, Lindsey Meyer and Mark Wolkoff.

Stay tuned for more 40th anniversary videos, including performances by folk icon Tom Paxton.
