Video: Bagpiper for the Road Well Traveled, by Maureen Denman

Our thanks to Morristown Green reader Maureen Denman for this musical moment, recorded on Monday on the Route 287 overpass near Morristown Medical Center.  We’ll let Maureen pick up the story:

As I was leaving the hospital last night after visiting my aunt, I was mesmerized by the sound of bagpipes in the vicinity.

Needless to say, I made it my mission to locate them, and I didn’t have to travel far on Franklin Street because it was on the 287 overpass on Franklin where I found Mitch Mallon, a Pediatric Nurse at the hospital, playing the bagpipes during his lunch hour (9:15 pm — clearly he works the late shift).

It was my “stop and smell the roses” moment….. or more like a stop-and-enjoy-how-magical-and-beautiful it was to see this guy standing there playing in the dark to no audience.

Yet as the dozens of cars whizzed past on 287, it occurred to me it was a huge audience  — making those five minutes the highlight of my day!

Editor’s note: After this entry was written, Maureen’s aunt passed away. Our condolences to Maureen and her family.
