Seth Hamblin, a deputy editor for the Wall Street Journal, collapsed and died of a heart attack near the finish line of a 5K race in Morris Township on Sunday.

Hamblin’s wife,Tanya Prescott, told the newspaper it was their first road race.  Hamblin was 46.

They were running in the Phillips 5K/10K Trail Run/ Walk at Lewis Morris Park.

“Our deepest condolences to his family and friends,” read a Facebook posting by the Christopher and Susan Phillips Foundation, the nonprofit that organizes the race.

By a tragic coincidence, Christopher Phillips and his mother Susan also were victims of fatal heart conditions. The race raises money for scholarships at Springfield’s Jonathan Dayton High School, alma mater of the Phillips family.

As deputy global head of visuals, Hamblin expanded the use of interactive graphics and multimedia at the Journal, the paper reported.  The California native and University of Missouri journalism graduate was a national graphics editor at the Washington Post before coming to New York. Hamblin and his wife resided in South Orange, where he became an avid gardener, the Journal reported.
