Many readers have been asking how the victim of Monday afternoon’s head-on collision on Speedwell Avenue is doing.

It’s hard to imagine after looking at the heap of metal that someone could survive with only a broken arm and dislocated hip. But thankfully, that’s all that David Brady, 42 of Morristown appears to have sustained.

According to Mark Brady, his son is recovering at Morristown Medical Center after surgery on Wednesday to insert metal rods and pins into his hip and arm. We’re told that David is pretty sore.

His car was slammed by a Toyota SUV at about 4 pm on Monday. Police said it took firefighters about 45 minutes to extricate him from his Plymouth Acclaim, which ended up looking more like a pretzel than a car.

The other driver, James Fitzgerald, 61, of Morristown, lost control of the Toyota and crossed the center line because of a “medical emergency,” according to police. He was treated and released for a hand injury, police said. The accident remains under investigation.
