Earlier, we reported about two  “suspicious incidents”  on Monday and Wednesday mornings, near Morristown High and the Alexander Hamilton schools. Here is more, from Police Lt. Stuart Greer:

morristown police badgeOn 03/31/2015, a 9 year-old boy reported that he was scared by a man in a vehicle while walking on Mills Street.  The boy indicated that while walking to school in the morning, he noticed a man in a maroon colored van on the other side of the road.  The boy reported that the man yelled something at him from inside the van and made a gesture towards him with his arm.   The boy was unsure of what was said but felt scared and ran to school.  Upon returning home that afternoon, he told his parents about the incident and it was reported to police.  Police determined that this incident took place in front of a school crossing guard who advised she had observed a van in the area but had not seen anything suspicious about the incident.  The driver of this vehicle was described as an older Hispanic male wearing a red tee shirt.

Today, at approximately 09:30am, Morristown Police responded to Alexander Hamilton School on Mills Street where a female had reported suspicious activity to school officials.  The female advised police that while walking behind a group of elementary school children on Harrison Street, she observed a blue Nissan Sentra vehicle stop several times and believed the driver was looking at the children.  The female advised that the driver never exited his car or had any contact with the children but she felt it was suspicious and decided to report it to school officials who in turn contacted the police.  The driver of the blue vehicle was described as a heavyset white male in his 40’s with brown hair.

Police are investigating both incidents however, at this time, there is nothing to indicate that children were ever in danger or that there is any correlation between these two events.  Parents are reminded to have discussions with their children about how to deal with strangers and to encourage them to report any suspicious activity to a responsible adult as quickly as possible.

Anyone with information regarding these two specific incidents are requested to contact Morristown Police at 973-538-2200.
