Organizers are upset that Gov. Christie is joining governors from Texas, Louisiana and South Dakota in a lawsuit opposing expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and implementation of the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) program.

DACA pertains to youths who came to the U.S. as children, and DAPA pertains to undocumented parents of children who are U.S. by virtue of their birth here.

The 10-mile march starts at 3 pm on March 29, 2015, at Wind of the Spirit’s office at 120 Speedwell Ave.  The faith-based organization advocates for immigrants. Here is more, from Wind of the Spirit:

NJ IMMIGRANTS, FAITH LEADERS HOLD PALM SUNDAY WALK TO CHRISTIE’S HOMETOWN

Community Condemns Christie’s decision to oppose Admin Relief  programs

Morristown & Mendham, NJ- In advance of Holy Week, New Jersey’s immigrant communities were disappointed to hear that their long struggle to end deportations, like the way of the cross “Via Dolorosa,” was being made longer and more painful by their own governor, Chris Christie. Christie announced that he was joining governors from Texas, Louisiana and South Dakota in their lawsuit opposing the expansion of DACA and implementation of DAPA.

Administrative relief would benefit millions of immigrants and employers and fortify the economy of our country.  Governor Christie is ignoring the benefits to his own communities in New Jersey, the state with the fourth largest immigrant population in the nation.  Any politician that is so easily moved to use immigrant’s lives to get ahead in the polls or to win an election is not fit to be a moral leader.

In the spirit of Holy Week, grassroots communities are holding a 10-mile walk, prayer and journey from Morristown to Chris Christie’s hometown, Mendham, calling on Governor Christie to recognize that we all have dignity as children of God and that as brothers and sisters, we need to work together for better communities and a better New Jersey.

  1. How many of the critics are only here because someone in their background came here illegally. How quickly they forget.

  2. Good Ole USA …we come here illegally and then make our illegality and our children’s destiny someone else’s responsibility…
