Man found dead outside Morristown post office; ‘not suspicious,’ authorities say

A 54-year-old man was found dead on a bench outside the Morristown Post Office on Saturday morning, authorities said.

morristown police badgeThe man’s identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin. The incident does not appear suspicious, and “there is no threat to the community,” according to a joint statement from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Morristown Bureau of Police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Morristown police (973-538-2200)  or the Morris prosecutor’s office (973 285-6200).

FROM THE MORRISTOWN POLICE:

MALE FOUND DECEASED IN FRONT OF MORRISTOWN POST OFFICE.

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Chief Peter Demnitz of the Morristown Bureau of Police announce that a male was found deceased this morning in front of the Morristown Post Office.

At approximately 8:26 am on March 21, 2015, Morristown Police were alerted about an unresponsive male who was on a bench at the front of the Morristown Post Office located at 1 Morris St. Morristown Police Officers and Paramedics from Atlantic Health Services responded and determined that a 54 year-old male was deceased upon their arrival.

As the male was discovered upon the property of the Morristown Post Office, investigators from the United States Postal Inspection Service responded to conduct the investigation with assistance from the Morristown Bureau of Police.

At this time, this incident does not appear to be suspicious and there is no threat to anyone in the community. A complete investigation will be conducted and more information may be released pending notification of the next of kin.
