HAPPY SPRING!  File photo from March 5, 2015, snowstorm in Morristown, by Kevin Coughlin

With heavy, wet snow predicted for this afternoon, Friday, March 20, 2015, the Morris– and Morris Plains school districts announced early dismissals.

Schools in the Morris District will operate on their usual early closing schedule.

Classes in the Morris Plains School District will dismiss at 12:45 p.m. Preschool dismisses at 11:15 a.m. All evening and after school activities are cancelled. The MPEA Volleyball fundraiser will be postponed until next Friday, March 27.

Yes, this IS the first day of spring. Technically, however, it does not start until 6:45 pm.  Maybe the storm will relent by then, and birds will sing happily.

But the National Weather Service says otherwise; a winter weather advisory is in effect from 5 am to 8 pm, with four- to six inches of snow anticipated.  The mix may include some sleet.

News 12 has been advising that the heaviest snowfall should come in the afternoon.

Morristown residents can park free in Morristown Parking Authority garages, through Saturday at noon. By then, the melt should be well under way. Temperatures are predicted to rise through the 40s.
