To the Editor:

March is Red Cross Month and we would like to recognize our everyday heroes who reach out to help their neighbors when they are in need.

The American Red Cross North Jersey region and their more than 3,330 volunteers are out in the community every day providing lifesaving health and safety training; supporting our military and their families; coordinating blood drives; and responding to local disasters, including home fires.

When a home fire occurs it takes security, it takes a lifetime of cherished memories, and it takes the household items we all need to live. Every day Red Cross volunteers respond to home fires to help give back what fire takes.

Last year, the Red Cross North Jersey Region responded to 494 home fires across the northern half of the stateĀ  to offer comfort and support to those in need. Volunteers provided Red Cross emergency assistance in the form of temporary lodging, food and clothing as needed to more than 1,130 New Jersey families.

It is through the compassion of our volunteers and the generosity of our donors that Red Cross programs and services, including disaster relief, are possible. Red Cross Month is observed in dedication of everyone who supports our mission. We are grateful for their kindheartedness, which enables us to continue our work.

You can become an everyday hero during Red Cross Month by helping the Red Cross give what fire takes. Become a volunteer or make a financial contribution to support families affected by home fires at redcross.org/donate/home-fires. Your donation could turn generosity today into tangible items tomorrow for those in need.

Sincerely,

Paul Sullivan

Morristown Resident
Chairman of the Board
