Brought together through their common connection to the late, great Dennis Cinelli, Quintetto Sincopato presents an exciting evening of South American music arranged for flute, mandolin, guitar, double bass, and percussion.

Maestro Cinelli (1953-2012), mandolinist extraordinaire, sought to create unique arrangements of Argentine tangos by Astor Piazolla (1921-1992) and Brazilian waltzes and choros by Alfredo “Pixinguinha” Vianna (1897-1973) for the ensemble to perform.

Upon his passing, the remaining members of the ensemble joined with a new mandolinist to perform these beautiful arrangements and to publicly honor the memory of their departed colleague; hence, the name of the program – “Omaggio a Cinelli.”

MARY CHERNEY has performed with many ensembles in a variety of styles throughout the United States and Europe.  Her versatility as a jazz and classical musician is illustrated in her extensive resume which includes performances at The Public Theatre, The Village Light Opera Company, Chamber Music at Town Hall, The Time Out Festival in London and Musique de Chateau de Berne.  Mary Cherney and Dennis Cinelli had a rich musical partnership spanning several decades, culminating with Duo Nova Antigua which explored music from the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo eras played on period and modern instruments, as well as the music of Spain and South America.  Duo Nova Antigua performances included The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Morristown Library, and the ARTEK performance series at Saint Bartholomew’s Church.  Mary Cherney’s personal compositions have recently been heard at The Firehouse Space in Brooklyn, where she performs with Matt Lavelle and the 12 Houses.
