The FAB 3 kids band, poet Ally Are, and the SteppingSTONE Band
were winners at the eighth annual Morristown’s Got Talent  competition on Wednesday at the Mayo Performing Arts Center.

They edged out 13 other acts to win a share of $2,500 in prize money along with bragging rights for the next year.

A panel of professional entertainers chose siblings The FAB 3 as winners of the 18-and-under division–their second win–and poet Ally Are as tops in the 19-and-over category. Both of those acts get $1,000.

Are, whose real-life name is Alyse Royal, recited Ideal, an original poem about allowing inner beauty to overcome her struggles with her body image.

A Morristown’s Got Talent poster tacked above her desk at a local car dealership inspired her to try out. She said she plans to use her prize money to further her education as a poet.

Spectators in the packed house voted by text message for the SteppingSTONE band,  which wins $500 as part of the evening’s social media-driven “Powered by You” theme.  The band gave an energetic closing performance of Get Back Up Again, lead singer Ryan Schutz’s song about rebounding from a job layoff.

The other SteppingSTONES are fiddler Eric Schaberg, a music teacher in the Morris School District; Jonathan Presnell on bass; Bill Fajvan on drums; and lead guitarist Brad Marullo — who teaches music to Arthur  Wawrzyniak of the FAB 3 at the Sussex Avenue School.

Arthur, his twin sister  Isabella and older sister  Sofia also won a third-place prize in 2013.

On Wednesday, the FAB 3 — the FAB stands for “Fia,” “A.J.” and “Belle” — covered Some Nights by the group Fun.  Arthur played drums and harmonized with his sisters.

Asked afterward if they needed an agent, the siblings replied in unison: “We’ve got two!”

The Morris Educational Foundation anticipates that proceeds will top last year’s record of  $70,000 raised for programs in the Morris School District.

More than 70 acts auditioned for Wednesday’s show, emceed for the second year by Tara Bernie of NBC’s Access Hollywood.

The yearly contest is open to anyone who lives, works or studies in Morristown, Morris Township or Morris Plains.

Stay tuned for more coverage of the show!
