Winter Weather Advisory. Wind Chill Advisory. High Wind Warning. Hazardous Weather Outlook.

What the National Weather Service is trying to say on Valentine’s Day is, Baby, It’s Cold Outside.

weather advisory nj transitThe winter weather advisory runs through 1 pm on  Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015.  Three- to five inches of snow are possible from Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning, with periods of heavy, blowing snow that may make driving treacherous.

Gusts of 55 mph are possible from midnight Saturday through 2 pm on Sunday, with the strongest winds expected between 6 am and 1 pm on Sunday. That’s the high wind warning.

Wind chills could feel like 20 degrees below zero between 4 pm Sunday and 11 am Monday, when a wind chill advisory is in effect. The mercury may hover between 4 and 14 degrees as winds whip from the northwest at 20- to 30 mph.

Be prepared for power outages, the National Weather Service warns. These winds can topple trees and tree limbs, and cause minor structural damage to homes. Don’t park your car under a tree.

Also, make sure cell phones and electronic devices are fully charged. If you own a generator, make sure it’s in working order and is properly ventilated if you crank it up.

Expect bridge restrictions and “impact to high profile vehicles” if these high winds occur, the agency cautions.

The Morristown fire station will serve as a warming station from 8 pm to 8 am on Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights.  The municipal building and fire houses in Morris Township will open to the public if electricity goes out.
