When it comes to education, it pays to start early.

Studies suggest that early schooling can give children the tools they need to succeed throughout their academic careers and beyond.

President Obama has stressed the importance of early education to help break the cycle of poverty.  Preschool Advantage, a Morristown-based nonprofit, is stepping up to the plate — offering 70 scholarships to children of underprivileged families in the Morris County area.

Applications are being accepted now for the school year that starts in September 2015.  Scholarships are for half-day tuition, three- to five days a week, at one of 17 partner preschools around the county.

To qualify, children must be 3 or 4 years old by Oct. 1, 2015, and parents must show financial need.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for hardworking families in our community to access a high quality preschool education for their children.  Attending preschool will ensure they have the foundation for future success at school and beyond,” Molly Dunn, executive eirector of Preschool Advantage, said in a statement.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 28, 2015.  Applications can be downloaded here,  or you can call 973-532-2501 for assistance.

Preschool Advantage, formerly known as Project Acorn, is celebrating its 20th year of providing preschool opportunities for disadvantaged children.
