Travel has been banned on all New Jersey roadways, starting at 11 pm on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, per the order of New Jersey State Police Superintendent Col. Joseph Fuentes, acting in his role as the state director of emergency management.

Gov. Chris Christie authorized such an action earlier on Monday when he declared a state of emergency ahead of Winter Storm Juno.

Fuentes said the operation of vehicles in New Jersey “constitutes an imminent hazard throughout the State’s municipal, county, state and Interstate roadways, including access roads,” threatening and endangering the “health, safety and resources” of residents and impeding timely snow removal.

Exemptions are granted to public safety, public works and public transportation vehicles.

Likewise, the ban does not apply to utility company vehicles and personnel and others involved in emergency response services.

Private snow removal operators are exempt, along with healthcare personnel and others who provide critical public services, patients traveling for urgent medical treatment, and news media.
