Greater Morristown closures, cancellations for 2015 Nor’easter

We will keep updating this post, so please check back here for closures and cancellations for Monday, Jan. 26, 2015 and beyond, as the big snowstorm blows through Greater Morristown.

All nonessential personnel in Morris County government have been told to stay home on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s Morristown council meeting is cancelled.

NJ Transit’s last trains and buses are scheduled to depart their hubs at 8 pm Monday. Bus service may resume on Wednesday; trains are not expected to roll again until Thursday morning.

The Morris and Morris Plains school districts have cancelled all classes and activities for Tuesday because of Winter Storm Juno. Also note: Monday’s Morris School District board meeting is cancelled. The Morris Plains school board meeting has been moved to Wednesday at 7 pm, in the Borough School learning center.

Garbage pickup is cancelled in Morristown on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015.  The North zone will be picked upon Wednesday. Town-wide recycling collection is set for its usual schedule on Wednesday.

State offices are closed as of 1 pm on Monday, and they will remain closed on Tuesday.

The Mayo Performing Arts Center has cancelled Performing Arts School classes on Monday and Tuesday. Also cancelled: Tuesday’s  Sid the Science Kid shows at 10 am, 12:15 pm and 4 pm, and Wednesday’s 10 am Mayhem Poets school show.

The Morris County Library is closing at 4:30 pm on Monday.

An artist meetup scheduled for Tuesday evening by Morris Arts  has been cancelled.

Project Homeless Connect, a clearinghouse for services helping the homeless, was set for Wednesday morning at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church; it has been postponed.

As we reported previously, schools will be closing early on Monday in the Morris and Morris Plains school districts.

Drew University is closing at 1:30 pm Monday, and staying closed on Tuesday. The school will advise students and faculty about food services and other campus services via email.

The Morris County Freeholders have postponed Monday’s budget input session until Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 6 pm in Morristown at the county administration building on Court Street.

The Newark Public Library has postponed Tuesday’s presentation about the new book, The Famous, The Familiar and The Forgotten, 350 Notable Newarkers.  No makeup date yet.

And just a reminder: As we noted over the weekend, free garage parking has been extended through Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, for Morristown residents.

Morristown police are advising residents to move their cars from several streets, where emergency parking restrictions are being enforced.
