Spoiler alert!

guy sterling flyerFind out on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, when our former Star-Ledger colleague, Guy Sterling, discusses his new book, The Famous, The Familiar and The Forgotten, 350 Notable Newarkers.

The 6 pm talk at the Newark Public Library  will include sale copies of the book, and refreshments, in the fourth floor auditorium.  The library is at 5 Washington St., 07102.

“Newark isn’t only one of America’s oldest cities, or New Jersey’s largest, it’s also given rise to some of the greatest names in politics, literature, law, entertainment, sports, education, business, broadcasting and a host of other fields,” Guy says.

As the city approaches its 350th anniversary, Newark’s story is told through the characters who have lived, worked and played there.

It’s a gaudy list, peppered with people like Stephen Crane, Sarah Vaughan, Shaquille O’Neal, Philip Roth, Whitney Houston, Frankie Valli and Jerry Lewis. Others never became household names. In fact, you would never let some of them into your house!

This promises to be a lively evening, from a man who knows how to bring history to life.  Check out Guy’s podcast about that famed New Jersey aviatrix, Amelia Earhart
