Authorities are investigating a bathroom fire that disrupted first-period classes on Friday morning at Morristown High School.

Morristown High SchoolThere were no injuries, damage was minimal and students returned to classes by 8:50 am, said Principal Mark Manning.

Manning said he was unaware of any arrests, but the incident remains under investigation by Morristown police and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

The police and prosecutor’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Friday afternoon.

Students were evacuated and stood outside for about 15 minutes, then were relocated to the auditorium and the gym, before receiving the all-clear to return to classes, Manning said.

The fire occurred in a boys restroom on the fourth floor early during first period, just before 8 a.m., said Mary Donohoe, a spokeswoman for the Morris School District.

The Morristown fire department cleared smoke from the fourth floor before students were allowed to return, Donohoe said.
