Warming shelters opened on Wednesday night in the Morristown fire house and at the Morristown train station, and they will remain open until further notice, police said.

The National Weather Service predicted that the mercury could dip to 3 degrees overnight, with 26 mph wind gusts and a wind chill as low as minus-11.

More of the same is forecast for Thursday, and daytime highs are not expected to top the freezing mark until Monday.

The fire station is at 161 Speedwell Ave. and the train station is at 122 Morris St.
