Chosen from more than 70 acts that auditioned last weekend at Morristown High School, these finalists will compete for $2,500 in prize money. Judges will select one winner under 19, and one winner that age or older. Additionally, the audience will vote via text message for its own favorite.

Proceeds will benefit programs in the Morris School District; $70,000 was raised last winter.

The lineup features four bands, a mother-daughter act (the Bozzas), a sibling act (the Wawrzyniaks), and two former prizewinning acts (the Wawrzyniaks, third place in 2013, Whistling Joe Sodano, second place in 2010).

(Prizewinners are barred from competing in the following year’s show.)

Other repeat performers include  Emmi Long, Art of Play and Brad Marullo, a member of the Stepping Stone Band who appeared as a solo act in 2011 playing U2’s Within or Without You.

Brad is a music teacher at the Thomas Jefferson and Sussex Avenue schools; the Stepping Stone Band also was featured at our 2013 MorristownGreen.com Film Festival.

Domenico Randazzo of Art of Play also performed at one of our MG Film Fests; his band appeared at Harlem’s famed Apollo Theater as well.

“Each year we are committed to provide the audience with a balanced show representing a variety of ages, styles of talent, and the tempo of the act. This year is no different,” said Debbie Sontupe, president of the Morris Educational Foundation.

“We are really excited about the mix and blend of performances the audience will see. On a side note, we saw a lot of bands in auditions this year and that made that category even more competitive.”

The competition is open to people who live, work or study in Morristown, Morris Township or Morris Plains, and to alumni of Morristown High School.

Amy Bozza covers a couple of those categories, as an administrator at the Frelinghuysen Middle School and an alum of the district.

A member of The Lone Mass band, Adam Casadevall, works in the media department at Morristown High… and is a past correspondent for Morristown Green.
