Poet Brendan Constantine said the poem was inspired by his 85-year-old mother, who advised him what to do if dementia strikes her.

Constantine gave this reading at the 2014 Dodge Poetry Festival, which runs through Sunday, Oct. 26, in Newark’s Downtown Arts District.

The biennial festival is hosted by the Morristown-based Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.

Constantine hails from southern California and is proud of his work with the Alzheimer’s Poetry Project,  which strives to spark memories with poetry.
