A video salute to Vinnie, 91, a Morristown dancer and cyclist who left us too soon

The last time we saw Vincent Aguanno alive was on a hot Saturday afternoon in August.

Wayne Cresta, director of Morristown’s seniors division, was helping the 91-year-old man load his bike onto a town shuttle bus for a lift home from Community Family Day.

Vinnie would have been perfectly happy to pedal home. The World War II veteran rode his bike everywhere, and on that day he told us cycling was the secret to his longevity.

A few weeks later, Vinnie passed away.  Friends and family will remember him on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, with a bike ride  organized by Bike & Walk Morristown.

There should be a memorial dance for Vinnie, too, at the Mayor’s seniors Christmas party.

Because this guy loved to dance almost as much as he loved to bike.  Our 2011 video proves it. Vinnie is the dancer in the tan jacket, back by the Christmas tree.

“He was always the highlight of our holiday events. He brought everyone to their feet,” Wayne said.

May we all be so youthful in our old age.

Saturday’s hour-long tribute ride starts at 2 pm, rain or shine, at Vinnie’s home, 33 Walker Ave., and will roll past some of his favorite places in town.

  1. Jimmy was really cool! He was always in a good mood, which I challenge anyone to find someone like him nowadays… He loved people, and everyone love him. Everytime we met, I would be compelled to shake his hand and be happy he was there, wherever it was, usually at family events.
    I will sincerely miss him.
