Someone find Jimmy Carter!  We need to scrutinize this election!

If the former President is busy in some God-forsaken backwater, then let’s at least have Major League Baseball review the call.

george recountAccording to the New Jersey chapter of the American Planning Association, Morristown finished second to Hoboken in voting for North Jersey’s hottest downtown.

A total of 7,167 online votes were cast for the region between between Aug. 22 and Sept. 26, 2014. Hoboken garnered 2,576 of them, or 36 percent, ahead of Morristown’s 2,206, or 31 percent. Downtown Jersey City and Montclair trailed far behind.

Given Hoboken’s much greater population, Morristown should feel pretty good about its showing, said Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty.

“It tells me we’re doing pretty darned good,” the Mayor said. “We’re not Hoboken. We’re Morristown. We have our own identity. I like what’s going on here. I don’t think Hoboken has a Festival of Books.  We’re on the cutting edge of things.”

Another thing that Morristown has over Hoboken:  A St. Patrick’s Parade. Hoboken deep-sixed its parade awhile back because of rowdy behavior. The Morris County parade remains a March tradition around the Morristown Green.

Central Jersey, meanwhile, may need to appeal to the Florida Supreme Court. Downtown Red Bank edged Asbury Park and Somerville, with only fractions of one percentage point separating the three towns.

Asbury Avenue in Ocean City trounced the downtowns of Collingswood and Millville to win bragging rights and a plaque for South Jersey. A total of 11,421 ballots were cast for the three regions, the planning association said.
