The designation puts the College, founded in 1899 by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, at Number 87 of the 135 top-tier institutions. The report included 620 regional institutions located from Maine to Pennsylvania/Maryland.

“All of us at the College – faculty, staff, administration, students and alumni — take pride in this acknowledgement,” said President Dr.Helen J. Streubert.

“We are dedicated to our students in undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs and are honored that an outside, independent organization has given us this designation.”

U.S. News uses Carnegie classifications to rank colleges and universities. College of Saint Elizabeth is considered a regional university because a majority of its students live within a 100-mile radius of campus and a high proportion of master’s and doctorate degrees are awarded.
