If you are a serious amateur singer, the Morris Choral Society seriously would like to hear from you.

Auditions are scheduled after rehearsals on Sept. 15 and Sept. 22, 2014, at 7:30 pm at the Frelinghuysen Middle School in Morris Township.

It helps if you can read music, but the main requirements are some choral experience and a blending voice.  Highlights for the upcoming season include a holiday concert at the Bickford Theatre in Morris Township.

Here are more details from the 75-member chorus.

FROM THE MORRIS CHORAL SOCIETY…

MORRIS CHORAL SOCIETY
TO HOLD AUDITIONS
REHEARSALS FOR 42ND SEASON BEGIN IN SEPTEMBER

Morristown, NJ – The Morris Choral Society will hold the first rehearsal for its 42nd season on September 8th at the Frelinghuysen Middle School, Jane Way, off Hanover Avenue in Morris Township.  A welcome back social will begin at 6:30 prior to the 7:30rehearsal.
Auditions will be held for serious amateur singers on September 15 and September 22 following the rehearsals.  The ability to read music is helpful, but not necessary.  Some choral experience and a blending voice are the only requirements.
The group is a well-established community chorus from the Morris Area with a two-fold mission: 1) to provide high quality choral music to local audiences and 2) to give interested singers an opportunity to perform in a choral organization before live audiences.  The Society is incorporated as a non-profit musical group run by an elected Board of Directors.  The choral society was named Outstanding Arts Organization 2007 by the Arts Council of the Morris Area, and its musical director, R. Wayne Walters of Parsippany, was recognized as Outstanding Professional in the Arts in 2000.
The 75-voice chorus has been invited to return to the Bickford Theatre at the Morris Museum for Holiday Spectacular Eleven.  The holiday concert, “Let There Be Music,” will include seasonal favorites ranging from excerpts from Handel’s Messiah to highlights fromFrozen and A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Musical Director, Wayne Walters of Parsippany, has also included a medley of holiday selections from around the world.  He has invited the Parsippany Hills High School concert choir under the direction of Matthew Lee to share the stage as featured guest performers.  The students will offer selections of their own and will join with MCS to celebrate the season. There will be two performances of the holiday family concert, Friday evening December 12th at 8:00 PM and Sunday afternoonDecember 14th at 3:00 PM.
Throughout its history the Morris Choral Society has performed a vast repertoire of American and Hebrew sacred and folk music, Broadway favorites, contemporary pieces and an impressive list of classical works from the choral masters of the Renaissance to the present.  MCS has brought life to new compositions of local composers such as Walter Giannini, David Sampson, and the premier of Requiem in D Minor by Director Walters.
The chorus has also partnered with the music departments of many local schools, The Morristown Partnership, The Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders, and the Hanover Wind Symphony.  They have appeared with guest artists such as Judy Collins and Dave Brubeck at the Mayo Performing Arts Center’s Community Theatre.
MCS has performed throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania and has toured England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany.  Obtain more information by visiting the website at www.morrischoralsociety.org or by calling 973-998-7239.
