State Police are investigating a collision on Route 287 in Morris Township that resulted in the euthanization of the animal.
A Toyota Corolla struck one of two horses that were in the northbound lanes at 4:35 am on Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, said State Police Sgt. Jeff Flynn.
At the request of the horses’ owner, who was at the scene, a State Trooper put down the injured horse.
The Toyota’s driver did not appear to be injured from the crash, according to the State Police spokesman.
Details about why the animals were on the highway remain under investigation, Sgt. Flynn said.
The collision occurred in the left lane. All three lanes were shut down for almost an hour; everything reopened just after 6 am, the officer said.
