In these short video clips, Morristown council members debate the need for the Dark Horse Lounge to hire an off-duty cop, and the precedent of such a requirement.

“It gets ugly,” Councilman Michael Elms said of closing time outside the Dark Horse.

The council ultimately voted 5-1  to impose the condition from midnight to 2 am, Thursdays through Saturdays.  Councilwoman Michelle Dupree Harris cast the lone dissenting vote, saying she wanted input from the police.  Councilwoman Raline Smith-Reid was absent.

This Aug. 13, 2014, vote followed a 6-0 decision to renew the license of Sona Thirteen without mandating any police moonlighting.
