Motorists should expect delays and detours on Ridgedale Avenue on Aug. 20 and 21, 2014, as the state replaces tracks from the Morristown & Erie rail line.

ROAD CLOSURE – RIDGEDALE AVENUE
This release is being distributed to alert motorists of an upcoming road closure that has potential for significant traffic delays.
The State of New Jersey is in the process of replacing existing railroad tracks on the Morristown and Erie rail line and will be working in the roadway on Ridgedale Avenue on August 20th and 21st. As part of this improvement process, it will be necessary to completely close Ridgedale Avenue to all traffic during that time period. As a result, traffic will be detoured for those two days and traffic delays may result.
Work will begin at 7 am on Wednesday, August 20th and will continue until completed. The estimated time of completion for this part of the project is late afternoon on Thursday, Aug. 21.
Ridgedale Avenue will be closed to through-traffic at John Street during this time however, local businesses will remain open and police officers will be on scene to assist people reaching those businesses during this period.
In preparation for this road closure, electronic signboards will be positioned on Ridgedale Avenue in the next few days to alert motorists of the upcoming construction. Additional notifications will be made using the Nixle alert system in the days immediately prior to this closure. Detours will be clearly posted and officers will assist with traffic during this period.
Traffic will be detoured as follows:
Northbound Ridgedale Avenue – traffic heading towards Morris Township / Hanover Township and all points north will be detoured onto westbound Abbett Avenue, northbound Martin Luther King Avenue, eastbound Hanover Avenue back to Ridgedale Avenue.
Southbound Ridgedale Avenue – traffic heading towards Morristown and all points south will be detoured onto eastbound East Hanover Avenue, southbound Whippany Road, westbound Lafayette Avenue back to Ridgedale Avenue.

As Ridgedale Avenue is a heavily traveled roadway, all motorists are encouraged to utilize alternate routes if at all possible.
