Editor’s note: Heart returns to the Mayo Center tonight, Aug. 11, 2014. To get you in the proper mood, here is our podcast with Ann Wilson. It first appeared on Morristown Green on Jan. 17, 2013, as a preview for this show.
Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart fueled countless schoolboy fantasies and inspired a generation of girls to rock on. But the sisters from Seattle are not done yet.
Nearly four decades into their party-hearty, take-no-prisoners careers, they have racked up their best year ever: An autobiography, a CD boxed set, a new album, a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, a command performance for Led Zeppelin and President Obama, and election to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Heart rolls into Morristown’s Mayo Performing Arts Center on
Jan. 31, 2013 Aug. 11, 2014. We asked Ann Wilson–the other-worldly voice of such rock classics as Crazy on You, Barracuda and Magic Man–to share the hard-earned wisdom that got her this far.
In a podcast with MorristownGreen.com, Ann reveals…
- Lessons from Led Zep
- The dope on partying
- The Joy of Discipline
- When rock is like sex
- What it’s like to inhale herbal substances with your parents
- The ties that bind the Wilson sisters (“We have an instinctive sense of when to back off”)
- Another side of Sir Paul
- The baking of Fanatic, and…
…valuable advice for girls who can’t shimmy into a size-four cocktail dress. Ann–whose strong female ancestors included a woman who hacked her way out of Indian captivity with a tomahawk–has spoken bravely about her lifelong struggle with the bathroom scale. She offers words of hope for millions who fight the same battle.
“I would say if your body image is getting in your way, and making it so you can’t succeed, then you’ve got to look at how good you are. Because it’s possible to succeed and be really beloved and get where you want to go no matter how you look,” said Ann, who has sold 35 million records with Heart.
“The thing you have to have, above all, is you have to be incredibly good. That’s what you should work on first.”
