A family member discovered one of the bodies on Thursday morning in the Bramhalls’ Arden Road residence in Denville; local police were called and a second body was discovered in the home, the Prosecutor said in a statement.

An investigation by the police and members of the county Prosecutor’s and Sheriff’s offices found no evidence of intrusion to the residence, according to the Prosecutor.

The bodies were identified by Deputy Morris County Medical Examiner Carlos Fonseca, who determined that Joan Bramhall was a homicide victim, and that her husband, John Bramhall, died of a self-inflicted gunshot.

Joan Bramhall served as Morris County clerk from 1999 until last year. Prior to that, she served as a Morris County freeholder, the county GOP chairwoman, and as an aide to the late Rep. Dean Gallo.
