Driver Dana Posey of the Township was seriously injured in the accident, which crunched the black Toyota vertically against a tree near Bradford Court at 1:50 am on April 16, 2014, reported Police Capt. Richard Ferrone.

The driver, who was alone, “was found in the driver’s seat, seat belted and heavily entrapped,” with air bags deployed, and was removed after a “lengthy extrication,” the captain said. Sussex Avenue was closed for about four hours between Raynor and Lake roads.

Alcohol and/or drugs are being investigated as possible factors, Capt. Ferrone said in a statement.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Morris Township Traffic Safety Unit, at (973) 326-7436.

So far, police have determined that the Toyota had been heading east on Sussex Avenue when it traveled onto the soft right shoulder, east of Bradford Court, and lost control, crossing into westbound traffic.

The crash into the tree “caused a major depression” in the vehicle’s roof, according to the police statement.

Township police, who responded to a 911 call, were assisted by the Morris Township Fire Department, the Morris County Sheriff Office’s Criminal Investigation Division and paramedics from Morristown Medical Center.
