It’s always exciting to see one of our own get recognized for his or her contributions to the community. And it’s especially delightful when that someone is a writer for MG Kids at MorristownGreen.com!
Carl Hausman, a charter member of MG Kids, was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society last week at Mount Olive Middle School, where he is an eighth-grader.
The National Junior Honor Society celebrates character, public service and good citizenship. Carl certainly has exhibited all of those traits since submitting his first MG Kids story way back in 2010, when he covered an Ice Cream Social for dogs at the St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center.
Over the years he has written about First Night, gaming conventions and public protests. Invariably, his dispatches are amusing, colorful and perceptive.
Additionally, Carl has volunteered at our annual MorristownGreen.com Film Festival, our WordPlay poetry nights (when we were one poet short, he banged out some verses that were highlights of the evening) and the Children’s Arts Festival that we co-hosted in Morristown with St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, where Carl and his family are members.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, he pitched in at St. Peter’s soup kitchen. He has played cello for church events, and last year he took part in a 5K to raise funds for a mission trip.
Carl also runs annually in a 5K that benefits a battered women’s shelter. He participates in a Hunger Walk, and honors veterans by marching with MorristownGreen.com on Memorial Day.
Nor have we heard the last from Carl.
He says he is hard at work composing some free-form pieces for cello…while writing and illustrating a fantasy series called The Blood Scale Curse.
Congratulations, Carl. Well done!
So very proud of you, Carl! Well done! (And, your parents are pretty terrific, too)
Congratulations Carl! Looking forward to reading more about your accomplishments.
