The Moody Blues are creeping up on a golden anniversary this year. Another half-century may be in the cards, if Thursday’s concert at the packed Mayo Performing Arts Center can be believed.
It was the second straight night in Morristown for Justin Hayward, John Lodge and Graeme Edge. We also caught them during a prior visit, in 2010, and they don’t seemed to have lost anything in the interim.
In fact, Graeme noted that he’s gained something–a few extra pounds.
Nobody was complaining as the band ripped through many of its best-loved songs: You and Me, Tuesday Afternoon, The Story in Your Eyes, Isn’t Life Strange, I’m Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band), In Your Wildest Dreams, I Know You’re Out There Somewhere, Nights in White Satin and Ride My See-Saw.
Let’s hope these guys never find the Lost Chord. The search is so much more fun.
It started for me in 1970 a sophomore in HS and they have not lost anything. We have seen them many times in many cities and they bring back such great memories of lifelong friends,my Fraternity Brothers – Talk about Karma, I go to a college in Cahokia, IL never meeting my roommate and he’s a Moody Blues fan! I don’t know how many pictures I have of my friends singing a moody blues song or how many nights we sat up partying, listing to the Moody’s and watching the sun rise. Listening to them now!! How are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!!
I have listen to the Moody Blues for many years and their songs have always touch my heart with brilliant words to describe love. Thank you for the wonderful times.
I can’t help but comment anytime I see an article about The Moody Blues. I have been a fan for 40 years, joining them on their voyage in 1974. I’ve had the privilege of seeing them many times and they never cease to amaze me. I dare to say that I think if you put a recording of Justin’s voice in 1974 against a recording made recently, he would sound pretty much the same. His clarity of tone and his ability to write brilliant songs has not faded one bit in those years. And John Lodge can charm the audience with his impish smile and fantastic bass playing. Graeme Edge, on the drums, is not to be forgotten since he is a founding member of The Moodies and a favorite of many. We, their fans, are some of the most loyal persons you will ever find, willing to travel long distances to see our favorite band perform. I live in Florid and yet I’ve sat next to people who have travelled from many of the 50 states to see them, yes even from Hawaii!! I travelled to Canada to see them! The Moody Blues will always be my favorite band and I’m proud that they have played a part in my life. SIWL, Arline in Florida — <aka Justin Fan1
