The damage looked frightful.

Fortunately, the young woman in the crunched Ford Fusion emerged intact after a lunchtime encounter with a truck on Speedwell Avenue in Morristown on Tuesday.

The woman, who declined to give her name, said she had been heading into town for lunch and was stopped in the right lane for a red light at the Spring Street intersection. The truck moved from the left-turn-only lane into the woman’s lane, striking the driver’s side of her rental sedan, she said.

“It sounded like a building collapsed,” said Debbie O’Connor, who heard the crash from her apartment above a storefront on Speedwell.

That impression was not so far-fetched.

Last month, roofs of two vacant buildings across the street–a former car dealership and a defunct video store–partially caved in under heavy snow and ice. A CVS pharmacy is slated to replace the car dealership.

Morristown police are investigating the accident.
