Morristown extends free garage parking; trash pickups postponed; library and other closures

Morristown residents can park free in select garages for an additional day, Mayor Tim Dougherty’s office announced late Wednesday as a Nor’easter blew closer.

To clear streets for snow plowing, residents now can leave their vehicles in four Morristown Parking Authority garages through Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014.

The venues are the Dalton garage on Cattano Avenue, the Ann/Bank streets garage, the DeHart garage and the Vail Mansion parking deck. Free parking at Headquarters Plaza ends by noon on Friday. Residents must show their driver’s license for fees to be waived.

The town also has postponed Thursday’s curbside trash and recycling pickups for a day.

The Morristown & Township Library will be closed on Thursday, joining the Morris School District.

Nursery school, and everything else, is canceled Thursday at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown.

A winter nature walk scheduled Thursday for Speedwell Park by Sustainable Morristown is kaput. Too much winter, according to the organizers.

Likewise, Grow It Green Morristown has thrown in the towel for Thursday’s Food for Thought film series. Forks Over Knives, a movie about eating your way to better health, has been rescheduled for Feb. 27.
