Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty said he anticipates Friday’s shooting will be solved quickly.

“I’ve got full confidence in our police department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office,” the Mayor said on Friday night.

Earlier in the evening, around 5:30 pm, police found a shooting victim in a car on Lincoln Street.

Police Chief Pete Demnitz said the victim was taken to Morristown Medical Center. No further details were released; the Chief referred inquiries to the Prosecutor’s Office.

A spokesman for Prosecutor Fredric Knapp would only say that the case was under investigation.

During the evening, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office was observed bringing a police dog to the scene.  The car, with New York license plates and a crumpled front end, eventually was towed from the sidewalk where it had come to rest on Lincoln Street.
