A large crowd of students and parents turned out at Monday’s school board meeting to question why a popular faculty member, Steve Woodruff, was let go this month.

Some students became emotional when describing how Steve mentored them, and helped their radio station, WJSV-FM. One student presented a petition with more than 250 signatures in support of the audio/visual technician, who handled engineering duties at the station and TV studio.

Here are video clips of some of their remarks.  And here is video of the response by Superintendent Tom Ficarra,  who told the audience that the “reorganization” will mean less down time for the station while saving taxpayers $81,000 a year.

The video above includes comments by students Abby Semple, Jake Goldberg, Dominic Cupo, Jeremy Herbert, Sarah Yenesel and David Murray. Parents Debi Goldberg and Joyce Reilly Ruiz also speak.
