Time to try downloading an audio book from the Morristown & Township Library website.

Closed since Wednesday because of a burst sprinkler head, the library will stay closed on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, and it’s likely to remain closed through the weekend, library Director Maria Norton said on Thursday.

The rupture occurred inside a second-floor electrical closet, near the children’s book section in the library’s 2006 wing, sending water through the first floor into a basement meeting room.

Firefighters said the extreme cold this week may have been a factor.  Library officials credited swift action by firemen from Morristown and Morris Township with sparing library collections from ruin.  Ceiling tiles and carpeting sustained most of the damage inside the Morristown structure, according to library officials.

This will be the library’s longest closure since a May 2010 explosion, which shut down part of the facility for nearly two years.

The library was closed for six weeks after a 1994 blast.
