Morristown police charge Randolph man in hit-and-run signal takedown

Morristown police have charged a Randolph man with knocking over a traffic signal and fleeing the scene–while driving without a license.

morristown police badgeCarlos Eduardo Vargas-Membreno, 20, told investigators “he had been distracted while driving, struck the traffic signal and then left the area in the vehicle because he was scared,” said Police Lt. Stuart Greer.

The accident occurred on Jan. 5, 2014, at the intersection of South Street and South Park Place.  Officers Robert Edwards and Brian McDonnell conducted the investigation.

Carlos was charged with failure to report an accident, leaving the scene, careless driving and driving without a license.

The owner of the car also was issued a summons for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate her vehicle.
