We never met Jackie Wiley. But John Cunningham liked her enough to endow an annual Christmas concert in her memory.  Which means Jackie must have been pretty special.  Because John sure was.

Author/historian John Cunningham cheers up Kay Brady, who was sad to be leaving Morristown's Methodist Church after many happy decades there. Kay is moving to Pennsylvania to be closer to her family. John and Kay enjoyed the annual holiday concert by the Christmas Singers. Photo by Kevin Coughlin

A congenial fellow with a ready smile, John wrote more than 50 books about New Jersey. He was writing another one when he passed away last year, well into his 90s.

Last week’s concert by The Christmas Singers–their 26th year at the Morristown United Methodist Church–brought back warm memories.

Thanks, John.

Our first video selection from the Dec. 19, 2013, show pares the quartet to a duo. Wayne Walters sings with Darren O’Neill, who adds some nifty guitar work.

June Van Thoen and Patricia Ruggles return to the mix for Hasten to Adore Him, which sounds an awful lot like Good King Wenceslas … or is it vice versa?  They also welcome a guest soloist, Patricia’s daughter, Mariam Bora, on the recorder. Anita Gordon holds everyone together with her piano accompaniment, as always.
