We’ve got a sports video two-fer today, with previews of the Morristown High School hockey and indoor track and field seasons, courtesy of our friends at the MHS Colonial Corner.
For two straight years, the hockey team has skated to the state finals. What’s the key to bringing home the championship? Watch the video to see how Coach Bobby Jones answers reporter Justin Del Bene and producer Bradley Selitto.
Hint: It certainly doesn’t hurt to have junior Shane Brown between the pipes for another season.
“Even when we’re just playing okay, he pulls out games for us,” Coach Jones says of his star goalie.
And the Colonials have a rugged co-captain in Brian Begley, who will be playing lacrosse at Loyola-Maryland next year.
The team takes the ice on Dec. 30, 2013, against Monsignor Donovan of Toms River at Mennen Arena in Morris Township.
Reporter Jake Goldberg introduces us to many of the faces that promise to make boys and girls indoor track interesting this season.
We meet coaches Paul Buccino (boys track) and Surina Ranawat (girls track), Kevin Rooney (throwing), and Michael O’Brien (hurdles).
Jake also talks to seniors Sean Lyons, Rudy Torres, Beth Rentko, Lauren Barone and Nicole Griffin; juniors Emma Cary and Christine O’Kane; sophomore milers Evan Quinn and Ben Edwards; and freshman Kate Sullivan, who describes the team as her “second family.”
Many of these athletes speak of achieving “p.r.’s” — personal records–to help the team.
Nicole Griffin describes her goal succinctly:
“To run as fast as I can!”
