For a twist on the usual holiday fare, the Presbyterian Church in Morristown is presenting a semi-staged musical production of Anne Phillips’ Bending Towards the Light: A Jazz Nativity on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m. in the Sanctuary at 57 East Park Place.
The production includes a professional jazz ensemble, including Steve Hess on drums, NYC jazz saxophonists Rob Middleton and Anton Denner, pianist Nicki Denner, guitarist Josh Rubin, Bud Ayres on bass, and trombonist Pete McIvor.
The Presbyterian Church in Morristown’s Chancel Choir and Cantate Omnes join the high school Cantus Choir as the chorus, actors and vocal soloists for the Nativity. Guest soloists portray the three kings: jazz trumpeter Christian McIvor, tap dancer Jeffrey Foote, and Latin percussionist, Pablo Bencid.
All forces combine to tell the age-old story of the light that came into the world to bring hope, love and peace, in a world fraught with discord, war and hate. Directed by Matthew Webb, Director of Music at PCM. This event is not to be missed!!! For more information, check out Kevin Coughlin’s wonderful interview with Matt Webb here.
Sunday morning is the third Sunday of Advent and Announcement Sunday. We worship at 9:15 and 11 a.m. led by Rev. The sermon is entitled, “Preparing for Arrival.” There will be a children’s sermon at the 11 a.m. service.
The results of the Our Turn campaign will be announced as we give thanks and praise for God’s blessing and prepare during this season of Advent for what God has in store for PCM! Child care is available at Howard House, next door to the church. During Church School at 9:15 a.m. at the Parish House on 65 South Street, we will hold a Christmas worship service featuring, “The Legend of the Poinsettia.”
